"I have always loved Sea turtles. Many years ago there was a true story about a woman and two men that were on a fishing boat. The boat sunk in a terrible storm and only the woman lived. She sat on a rock in extreme shock for three days untill another boat happened to find her. Well, when they lifted the woman into the boat the what they thought was a rock lifted its head, looked at them and then swam down under the water. That story whenever I think about it just makes me realize how very little we know or how little we see when it is right in front of us."

Meet Maia Waye, who grew up with art awareness, from many members of her family. Her mother - an artist, taught oil painting when she was a child. Her Grandfather taught her about beauty during their walks together and inspired questions in her as a very young child. "Every walk, every conversation was an awareness in nature's miracles, " she tells.

Growing up on a farm taught Maia much and led to becoming a veterinary technician working with exotic animals. She also worked with midwives and worked as a Doula (a Doula is a professional birthing coach, they don't assist in the actual delivery, or provide medical care.)

During the last 23 years or so, she has developed her skills working in the art of Pyrograph Gourds. Pyrograph Gourds is the art of burning intricate designs into the gourd. Maia's gourds have been sold in galleries and to private collectors in several countries. Now she finds a need to work a medium that is not as strenuous on her hands and will on occasion have Gourds for sale.

I am so amazed at the level of skill of both her gourds and her paintings, that I wanted to share them with you. I hope that you love her work as I do and appreciate the time and patience Maia's things require. You can find more of Maia's art at http://www.maiaart.etsy.com/. Please wander through her store and be enchanted by her many colorful works of art!!
